Question of the Day for May 17 – 2010

•May 17, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Question

We have an angle of 3 degrees. How big will it look through a glass that magnifies things four times?

Solution:

The measure of the angle will not change because though magnifying glass will increase the length of the arc  of the angle but at the same time it will also increase the radius proportionally. So the ratio of the length of the arc to radius (and hence  the circumference of the circle) remains the same and does not change the angle.

Calculus Homework Help

Calculus in Latin is for stone, and the ancient Romans used stones for counting and arithmetic. In its most basic sense, calculus is just that –        a form of counting. After advanced algebra and geometry, it is the next step in higher mathematics, and is used for solving complex problems that regular mathematics cannot complete.

Calculus is the mathematics of change, of calculating problems that are continually evolving. This is possible by breaking such problems into infinitesimal steps, solving each of those steps, and adding all the results. Rather than doing each step individually, calculus allows these computations to be done simultaneously.

Calculus home work help problems are mainly learned for:

Both differential and integral calculus problems are useful to a wide variety of careers. The examples below are only a fraction of the ways professionals regularly use calculus.

Credit card companies use calculus to set the minimum payments due on credit card statements at the exact time the statement is processed by considering multiple variables such as changing interest rates and a fluctuating available balance.

Biologists use differential calculus to determine the exact rate of growth in a bacterial culture when different variables such as temperature and food source are changed. This research can help increase the rate of growth of necessary bacteria, or decrease the rate of growth for harmful and potentially threatening bacteria.

An electrical engineer uses integration to determine the exact length of power cable needed to connect two substations that are miles apart. Because the cable is hung from poles, it is constantly curving. Calculus allows a precise figure to be determined.

An architect will use integration to determine the amount of materials necessary to construct a curved dome over a new sports arena, as well as calculate the weight of that dome and determine the type of support structure required.

Space flight engineers frequently use calculus when planning lengthy missions. To launch an exploratory probe, they must consider the different orbiting velocities of the Earth and the planet the probe is targeted for, as well as other gravitational influences like the sun and the moon. Calculus allows each of those variables to be accurately taken into account.

Statisticians will use calculus to evaluate survey data to help develop business plans for different companies. Because a survey involves many different questions with a range of possible answers, calculus allows a more accurate prediction for appropriate action.

A physicist uses calculus to find the center of mass of a sports utility vehicle to design appropriate safety features that must adhere to federal specifications on different road surfaces and at different speeds.

An operations research analyst will use calculus when observing different processes at a manufacturing corporation. By considering the value of different variables, they can help a company improve operating efficiency, increase production, and raise profits.

A graphics artist uses calculus to determine how different three-dimensional models will behave when subjected to rapidly changing conditions. This can create a realistic environment for movies or video games.

Calculus is a wonderful way of communicating visions and predictions using numbers and simulations. Pre-Calculus is taught in high school and is must for studying advanced topics like Calculus in Mathematics at schools and Colleges.

A strong base of pre-calculus will make it easy for you to understand advanced topics and prepare you well for exams. Capacity to solve problems like AP Calculus will enable you to score good marks in exams.

Homework Help provides personalized online tutoring and live online homework help that will clarify the new concepts to you and also help the students to work towards filling in the gap in their old concepts and learning.

Ability to solve Calculus problems will be great advantage to excel in the exams and also become a structural engineer or nuclear scientist or space scientist in future.

Calculus Tutor and Calculus Homework Help

Calculus is the study of mathematical, statistical functions and their properties. Differentiation or Differential Calculus is used to find out slope of a given curve or the rate at which a given dependent quantity changes with respect to change in the independent quantity.

We have dedicated tutors who teach Differential calculus homework help problems which enable you to find out the maximum and minimum value of a given function. Integral Calculus homework help problems computes the area bounded by the curve by dividing the area into small parts and then integrating it along either X or Y axis. Integral calculus homework help problems can be used to find area and volume bounded by curves. In the present competing environment, students have a lot to do within limited time. Sir, Can You Come Online? Online Tutoring – A New Way of Learning

•November 7, 2009 • 1 Comment

Yes it is as easy as that when it comes to taking your tutoring sessions online. We all know how important it is to keep in pace with the time. As we grow older, time seems to be running faster than before. Isn’t it? Though we all always have 24 hours a day but student’s work load, daily stress due to homework, tests, exams, competition etc goes on increasing as they move to higher classes. For a person like me who was literally into books most of the time especially in classes 11 and 12, I really felt that a lot of time got wasted in traveling for my tuition classes. It included not only my traveling time but also I had to get ready for my tuition classes, find a public transport, then after reaching in time for my tuition classes wait for all the students to arrive and sometimes even waited for my tutor to arrive. Moreover my tuition classes were not very different from school classes since it again had a bunch of 20-30 students packed in a small room. Sometimes it was so crowded that students had to sit beside the teacher’s chair!! Reaching a little late meant sitting far at the back from where it was difficult to ask anything. Then again time consumed in traveling back. Then after that you really don’t feel like studying but you had to study. There is homework, test, and revisions. So when is the student doing self study which is very important according to me. I don’t think it was a very smart way of studying.

Online Tutoring – A Real Boon!
Now after hearing about online tutoring and actually seeing how it works, I wish it was there in my time too because now I realize how much time I actually wasted!! I could spend that time preparing for my competitive exams. I never had anyone to guide me properly. I feel that the biggest reason for this was lack of internet awareness and less internet resources at that time. I guess students are now more aware which makes them more resourceful and wise than we were at the same age. With online tutoring you just need to schedule a session few hours before and the tutor shall be available for you. Since it is one to one online tutoring, students will not have to go through the problems that I went through. The student will get complete personal attention of the online tutor. No hassles or time waste in going anywhere, you don’t have to waste time in getting ready for tuition classes and in traveling back and forth. If you have a test week, you surely cannot waste time in traveling for your tuition and have no choice but to miss those lessons. But if you have opted for online tutoring, all you need to do is ask your online tutor to come online. That’s it. You can make a note of problems that you are facing while preparing or studying for your test. You can discuss those questions with facility like live homework help and get your doubts cleared immediately. It becomes a problem when student is left with lot of unanswered questions in his mind before the test. I know how I used to feel so unprepared because I couldn’t solve that one particular question. It tends to lower our self confidence. But with a tutor available anytime, anywhere such things make studies a bit easy for students.

The Digital Handouts!
Apart from anytime availability of tutor for the students, online tutoring is actually an excited way of learning. Students really don’t have to worry about taking notes or missing a lesson when they don’t feel like going out in scorching heat or cold weather. Online tutors share their notes, documents, presentations, examples, images, animations etc in their online session which can be saved by the student. Moreover the recorded sessions can be viewed again anytime later which is never possible with traditional tutoring. Student can request for recorded sessions whenever he wants to revise the old concepts. There again saving of lot of time and flexibility of anytime tutoring from anywhere. Sounds interesting, isn’t it?

The Exciting Virtual E-Learning!
Other factor why I think online tutoring works for today’s students is because they are really into internet and computer. There are some students who like playing PSP, Xbox and all other kinds of computer and mobile games. Since they spend most of their time in the virtual environment, their mind gets tuned in a way that they don’t find traditional way of learning as interesting as e-learning. They are more internet savvy and understand well in such an environment. They don’t find it dull. Its colorful, exciting and may be exactly the way of learning that they had been looking for!

One On One Online Tutoring To Boost Your Child Grades and Self Confidence!

•November 7, 2009 • Leave a Comment

This article shares with you my personal views on one on one online tutoring. Since all of us are different beings (even two twins are different!) and so are the learning and grasping capabilities. You may wonder why your child cannot score as well as his/her sibling though you might be putting the same or even more effort on him/her. The teaching methodology needs to be molded carefully according to the particular needs of your child. With one on one online tutoring your child can get that special attention that might be missing in a big classroom having more than thirty students. Learning capabilities is not the only factor that affects your child’s grades. There are many things that add together to make us the person we are.

Here are the few points that I would like to list

  1. The way he/she feels about himself/herself: It is very important for a child to feel good, positive, healthy, free minded and energetic. We all know the famous proverb “A healthy mind in a healthy body”. Physically fit and active children can definitely concentrate better on their studies and balance their fun and study time. With personal attention to your child’s academic progress, certainly a special teacher – student bond develops and this helps to understand your child beyond the books and studies.
  2. Their attitude towards life: Small little things such as their reaction to certain situations, their response to what elders ask them to do etc reflect a lot about their attitude towards life. It tells about various traits like optimistic or pessimistic, how seriously they take what they are asked to do, how do they take the highs and lows in their life, how much do they get affected with by their environment and all such things. With personal attention by the tutor to these small things will help in building a positive attitude in the child.
  3. The desire/passion in them to know more: For some students the physics or science laws and concepts may be just facts but some students would like to dig into those laws and think of many questions like why and how. I believe in encouraging the students to think about these questions that if something is happening, what’s the reason behind it? It helps in building strong base of the subject.
  4. Introvert or extrovert nature: It is not easy for all the students to raise their hand and ask a question from their teacher in a classroom of more than 30 kids or to go directly to their teacher and ask for problems. Some of them have that hesitation and a negative thought process with various kinds of thoughts in their mind such as “What if the teacher find’s my question stupid or irrelevant?” or “What if other kids laugh at my question?” or “What if the teacher asks me something in return, what will I do!” .So a personal tutor in this case can prove to be really helpful in helping the child to open up and speak without any hesitation.
  5. Concentration level: Some students get distracted very easily while some remain engrossed in their work without caring what is happening around them. When a student is having an online session especially one on one online session, I believe he/she cannot be easily distracted. Student needs to have a quiet surrounding to be able to hear properly. He/She has wonderful interactive board to work on. Then there is tutor’s personal attention. Distraction can be controlled by involving the student in discussion, questions, problems etc.
  6. Self Confidence level: If one has very low self confidence then he/she may think many times before answering a very simple problem and may not even answer thought they have calculated the answer in their mind. A very low confidence level can be developed due to many factors like the attitude of people around him, the lack of appreciation that the child receives or negative environment around him/her. All these things may often not be noticed by the parents but gradually they might deeply affect their children. So we really have to be careful when dealing with children.
  7. The stress level that he/she feels: Student’s life is not simple as it used to be some years back. There is more competition with more and more students competing for limited seats in the universities. There is school homework, tests, presentations, practical assignments, deadlines etc. The clock keeps ticking and every second counts. As a personal guide, mentor and tutor I would try to help your child release this stress so that he/she can really enjoy the best times of their life.
  8. Time management: This again goes to handling all the stress of the hectic school schedule. Like a student has test for tomorrow as well as a pending homework happens to have the same deadline. Student is in a dilemma as to how to really manage both the things with equal efficiency so that neither of his/her subject suffers. With online tutoring student needs to schedule their session in advance. If they keep track of their deadlines if they know them well in advance they can easily schedule a session to discuss the problems he/she faces while doing the homework without really going anywhere and wasting time in traveling. This way your child would be saving a lot of time and be able to manage such situations pretty well.

Many students just become anxious when they see a Physics question in front of them. They feel that just don’t know from where to start! They get panic and this worsens the situation because they are not able to use the concepts they already know. This can be due to many reasons like lack of confidence in the subject, less of practice or poor understanding of the subject.

Physics is a subject which is more than Mathematics and proven laws. It is about observing actual physical phenomenon that occur in your day to day life and then explaining them with the help of Mathematics. So learning physics requires equally strong base of Maths.
For example: You observe that while you are swinging on a playground swing, when you stop exerting a push on yourself then the swing ultimately comes to rest after some time.Giving a thought on why it stops on it’s own is Physics!

Tips to score high in CBSE Math Board Exam!

•July 14, 2009 • Leave a Comment
  • Move step by step to build your confidence in the subject. Many students have a big fear of Mathematics in them. They are never sure while they are answering and have that negative feeling that whatever they are writing might not be correct. To overcome the fear of Math, the student should not jump to the next topic till he/she has a strong base of the previous topics.He/she should not really care what topics or chapters other people are doing.Every student has his/her own learning pattern and capabilities. He should only care about his learning pace.Never try to rush because others are ahead…slow and steady will win the race 🙂
  • Start with NCERT questions first: Please do not neglect your NCERT.It is ‘the’ book that CBSE recommends and the board paper will have questions based on NCERT books.Never try to look for guides or solutions– A very bad way of studying Math.Try getting each and every question correct. If you are stuck somewhere , look at the examples given in NCERT.These examples cover almost all types of questions asked in the book. But if you still face problems, then your Math teacher or Math tutor is always there to help you out.
  • Remember your formulas -Write all your formulas in a sheet of paper. There may be more than one way to solve a particular question. If you remember all your formulas and know which one to apply when, you can save a lot of time by applying the formula that fits best to your question. If you find it hard to memorize it, just give it a reading everyday like while on your way to school or in your library period or whenever you wish to.
  • Reference Books : At least one good reference book is must for practicing a good number of questions.NCERT has good questions but they are not enough. For a student to be able build a good confidence in solving math questions on his/her own, he/she should practice as many questions that cover all the types. It may be difficult for the student to identify all the types, so he needs to take help of his/her teacher in covering limited but all types of questions.
  • Divide your time for different chapters according to your grip or understanding of the chapter, it’s weightage in the exam and the time you have. For example, Suppose you find coordinate geometry difficult. And it also has lot of weightage from examination point of view, then first of all write and read all the basic formulas of the chapter. Then build your base of the topic by starting with basic problems.Give at least 1 hour every alternate day to this chapter by trying questions on your own (this hour doesn’t include the time that you attend for this chapter in school or in tuition). If you get stuck anywhere…don’t just move to the next topic along with the pace of the rest of your friends.Do get all your doubts cleared as soon as possible. The bottom line is that regular practice can easily help you master the subject.
  • Identify your best time to study (any subject). Some students are night owls and grasp things easily when everyone else is sleeping and there is hardly any noise around them but some might be tired by say 11pm and cannot really study efficiently during night, so they might prefer rising early say at 4 or 5AM.This is a fact that if you cannot concentrate well or are not able to grasp the chapter due to tired body and mind, even if you spend 5 hours studying, you might not be able to gain as much as by studying just for 2 hours at the time when you are most active and comfortable.
  • Complete your course well in time so that you have ample of time for revisions.Revision is must so that you just don’t go out of touch with the old topics.
  • Take a break!! It is very important to maintain a balance of all the activities in your life.

I know the fact that students have to cover a lot of course and time is just too short.Plan your routine and you will experience the difference 🙂
